The Renowned Singer, Songwriter and Producer Performs Acoustic Versions Of His Biggest Hits Such As “La Mejor Versión de Mi,” “Pienso En Ti,” And “El Alumno” From His Home In Culiacán, Sinaloa
On the heels of his Latin GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Banda Album” for his latest LP Llegando al Rancho, Joss Favela today surprises us as the first Regional Mexican artist to headline a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert. The intimate performance can be seen on the NPR Music YouTube channel.
This concert series which began in 2008 now includes over 800 performances from some of the world’s most legendary artists.
Singing entirely in Spanish from his home studio in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Joss wins over U.S. listeners with his original lyrics and music that have captivated millions in recent years.
Joss performed six songs with acoustic backing – “Bonita” and “Cuando Fuimos Nada” from his debut album Hecho a Mano (2016), “Pienso en Ti” from his second album Caminando (2019) which was originally a duet with Becky G; “El Alumno,” a single from his latest album Llegando Al Rancho; as well as “Me Vas a Extrañar,” which he recorded with the female pop group Pandora in 2019. To the delight of his fans, he also sang his composition “La Mejor Versión de Mí,” which crossed over two years ago to become a mega-hit in the Latin pop, urban and tropical genres after being recorded by the Dominican star Natti Natasha.
For this concert, Joss is accompanied by his band as well as special guest Pliego Villarreal, bass player of the Monterrey, Mexico electronica group Kinky, whose keyboardist Ulises Lozano serves as the performance’s producer.
Celebrating the fourth Latin GRAMMY® nomination of his career, Joss will attend the ceremony which will take place November 18 in Las Vegas.
Llegando al Rancho has also produced hits such as “Alguien Especial,” “El Clavo” y “Tu Adiós Como Tequila” which has over 57 million streams.
About Joss Favela:
Singer, songwriter, and producer, Joss Favela is one of the greatest exponents of the Regional Mexican genre. In 2016, at age 25, he became the youngest person to win the ASCAP Latin Music Award for Songwriter of the Year and by age 27, he had already received his third consecutive ASCAP award in the category. Favela began writing music at age 12 and has now written over 100 songs for some of Regional Mexican’s most renowned names such as Alejandro Fernández, Banda MS, La Arrolladora Banda el Limón, and Julión Álvarez among others, and for artists of different genres such as Natti Natasha and Yuri. During his nascent yet fruitful career, he has achieved four Latin GRAMMY® nominations and three GRAMMY® nominations for Best Regional Mexican Album for his albums Hecho a Mano (2016) and Caminando (2019). In 2018, he wrote an original song for Sony Pictures feature film Superfly. In 2019, he was a judge on Univision’s reality show, Reina de la Canción alongside Pedro Capó, Sergio George, Natti Natasha, and Olga Tañón, and in 2017 he was a judge in Estrella TV’s show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento.
