CDMX, MX (January 29, 2021) — Mexican Institute Of Sound releases his latest collaboration today with La Perla on his new single, «El Antidoto» from his forthcoming album, “D.F.” (Distrito Federal) out on February 5, 2021 on all digital platforms + vinyl. The single is accompanied by a mystical and magical video that was premiered yesterday as an exclusive with Sounds and Colours.
Before the pandemic, before the vaccine or the horrendous social cyclone these last few months, Camilo Lara, the brainchild behind Mexican Institute of Sound had a song in mind. The song was an inspiration created in his neighborhood, Colonia Roma during the sessions of his new album Distrito Federal. His imagination and creativity led him to a bombastic sonidero style song heard at parties. Over time, Camilo thought the rough mix needed to sound less electronic and more organic, more natural.
During a trip to Bogotá, Colombia he met with La Perla from Colombia who are known for reinventing traditional rhythms to create unique and one-of-a-kind sounds, mixing rhythms from the past, to bullerenque, to merengue, Caribbean and of course Cumbia. La Perla added the final touches to the single, ‘El Antidoto’ that we now hear.
“Diana Sanmiguel raps as though she had the antidote in her. She is powerful and smart. I like to think of cumbia as a healing element. Together like at a ‘sonidero’ dance party, dancing to one rhythm. Looking for the antidote”, comments Camilo Lara about the collaboration. “The video for the song takes us back to other times, to dance rituals, smoke, fire, masks, magical and mystical elements that incite the wild dance, the primal dance that in the end almost without knowing functions as an antidote keeping away evil spirits.
The video was filmed in CDMX by Oliver Castro at Garage Films during the pandemic with all precautions taken during the shoot.
The new single, ‘El Antidoto’ is available today, January 29th on all digital platforms.
