Distrito Federal, MX (19 de febrero 2021) — Hay algo tremendamente metafórico en el hecho de que, en algunos de los pasajes de “TANDA”, el nuevo álbum de Alex Ferreira, su madre le dicte la receta para cocinar lentejas y salsa de tomate. Su nuevo álbum, “TANDA” esta disponible hoy en todas las plataformas digitales.

Esa manera absolutamente elemental y a la vez universal de entender el hogar que tiene el artista dominicano residente en México, y que durante tantos años ha formado parte de lo más prometedor del circuito musical madrileño; es también la que tiene a la hora de entender el formato canción: como un delicioso mejunje de sensaciones, de querencias musicales, de viajes y de sabores.

Alex Ferreira nos dicta sin querer queriendo algunas claves de la receta de un trovador universal, un cantautor que rehace el propio concepto de cantautor, un cantor que hace líquidas las fronteras y las tradiciones musicales, que convierte la escucha del flamante “TANDA” en una carretera directa hacia un hogar llamado mundo.

Un hogar que comparte con compañeros generacionales como pueden ser Jorge Drexler, Xoel López, Depedro o Augusto Bracho, por marcar un arco aproximado de a qué suena su música para los que no la conozcan; pero en la que Alex Ferreira consigue dotar su cancionero de un sabor especial que aparentemente lo distancia de todos para, a su vez, acercarlo más que nunca a todos.

En el código genético de “TANDA” conviven todos los Alex Ferreira (y todas las canciones) que lo han traído hasta aquí: el que creció escuchando rock alternativo en la televisión a la vez que se le colaban los boleros de las cintas de casete de la cocina de su madre o los hits de Juan Luis Guerra de un coche con las ventanillas bajadas desde la calle.

Todas esas tradiciones se perciben en el nuevo álbum del dominicano, su producción más ambiciosa hasta la fecha, grabado en El Desierto Casa-Estudio de Ciudad de México y producido en coalición junto al venezolano Gustavo Guerrero (productor de Natalia Lafourcade) y el argentino Matías Cella (productor e ingeniero de artistas como Mercedes Sosa, Jorge Drexler o Kevin Johansen, entre otros/as): una vía de acceso a los mil colores de la música latinoamericana con una mirada de autor y un ingrediente especial.

Tanto cuando, entre otros actos inexplicables, canta a los desastres preciosos (“Lo tuyo no tiene madre”), cuando coquetea con el afrobeat isleño (“La vida es un chin”), cuando convierte la bachata en una maniobra maestra del groove de autor (“Paripé”), cuando enciende el tribalismo pop más encendido (“El Titubeo”) o cuando trabaja el neo-bolero como si fuese una pieza de jazz (“No se rompe”); la salsa que cocina Alex Ferreira no solo no tiene colorantes ni aditivos, sino que sabe a gloria infinita.

México City, MX (February 19, 2021) – There is something tremendously metaphorical in the fact that, Alex Ferreira’s new album, “TANDA” includes lyrics of his mother dictating the recipe for cooking lentils and tomato sauce. The new album is a patient album, whose recording was turned in to the music not the clock. The highly-anticipated album is released today and available on all digital platforms.

Ferreira is both a singer-songwriter and cantautor, an heir to the distinct legacies that those inexactly translated words imply. For many years the promising artist lived in Madrid and was part of the most prestigious circle of Spanish songwriters that shaped his songwriting style and who currently resides in Mexico City.

Alex Ferreira titled his fifth studio album, “TANDA” not because of the meaning of the word, but for its percussive sound: two syllables that echo hands on a drum, the cha-ka of seeds shaking in a gourd, the casual slap of bare feet on the floor, or the familiar call of a name from another room in the house.

TANDA, brings his songs to a subconscious identity of his early childhood hearing merengue and bachata to the surface.

Inadvertently he guides us throughout his new album by giving us a look inside his storytelling. Ferreira is a universal troubadour, a singer-songwriter who creates his own boundaries as a songwriter, a singer who blurs musical borders and traditions.

Ferreira relates to Latin American songwriters from around the world from different generations, such as Jorge Drexler, Xoel López, Depedro or Augusto Bracho, artists that are very similar to what his music sounds like for those who do not know it; but manages to add somewhat of a different touch to his songbook that separates him from the other songwriters and takes him a step closer to his fans.

TANDA was recorded by Daniel Bitrán and JC Vertti at El Desierto Casa-Estudio, a refuge on the outskirts of Mexico City where music is made in a circular glass-enclosed room bathed by the fir and oak forest outside. Ferreira gathered with a close-knit group of musicians from Mexico City’s iconoclastic alternative music scene in that zen environment for a series of separate sessions, produced, respectively by, Gustavo Guerrero (Natalia Lafourcade) and Matías Cella (Mercedes Sosa, Jorge Drexler, Kevin Johansen among others).

Ferreira’s music transformed in the studio with instrumental conversations and improvisations, like the one that fades out on (“Lo Tuyo No Tiene Madre”), and flirts with Afrobeat sounds in, (“La Vida Es Un Chin”), while he turns bachata into a masterful maneuver of groove in his songwriting on (“Paripé”), and ignites the most fiery pop tribalism on (“El Titubeo”) or when he mixes neo-bolero as if it were a jazz piece on (“No se rompe”), a pop ballad on clave that destroys one of music’s greatest clichés: heartbreak; Alex Ferreira delivers infinite glory on his latest masterpiece, “TANDA”.
